Tips for a carefree Engagement session.
An engagement session is arguably the most important thing you and your photographer can do. It’s your first chance to really get to know the photographer and their style and approach to taking photos. At Wittful Productions, we pride ourselves in our “candid” photography style because we believe that’s the best way to capture a moment. After all it’s the real moments that make us smile and fall in love. It’s the real moments that make us who we are.
Our goal for an engagement session is to capture the essence of your love, the smiles you only show each other can only be captured when you think no one is looking.
Here’s just a few of our favorite tips to having a fun and carefree engagement session:
The background of your photos can help reflect your personalities. If you both love nature, then ask for a location that really highlights that. If you both like day dates, then ask your photographer to tag along and capture those moments. Food truck dates and a walk can make for an amazing photoshoot.
Plan your outfits in advance and makes sure they go together well. They don’t need to match completely unless that’s what you guys do. But think about accessories and how they can work together. Many of my couples go for a bit of a casual approach, which is perfect because that can show who they really are in the photos.

If you have something special lined up for your shoot, makes sure everything is ready and good to go before the photography session. Have a second outfit ready, be sure to eat a little before your session. And most importantly be prepared to smile at each other. Like a lot.
An engagement session is a mini celebration of your wedding to come! The more fun you allow yourself to have the better your photos will be. We even recommend viewing the night as a date night. By planning some other things for you guys to do the stress of a photo shoot will fade away and be nothing more than a fun date.
Honestly, the most important tip anyone can give you for your engagement session, or ANY photo session, is to be yourself and accept yourself for all your imperfections; Next time you see a photo of yourself, instead of saying “I hate my smile” or “I wish I was thinner” or whatever, try saying “look how happy I look!”.
