In this blog, I will be answering some of the most common questions I receive about boudoir photography and the boudoir experience. Boudoir photography can be a nerve-wracking experience, but it doesn't have to be. My biggest goal is to make the process as comfortable and enjoyable as possible for my clients.
I will also be providing valuable information for anyone interested in booking a session; Covering topics such as what to expect during a boudoir photoshoot, when you should start booking your boudoir session, and I’ll even briefly go over payment plans. What is a boudoir photoshoot?
If you're looking to spice up your love life or simply celebrate your own beauty, boudoir photography is a great way to do it. A boudoir photoshoot is a type of photography that features intimate, sensual, and empowering images of a person in a private setting such as a bedroom or a professional photography studio. The main goal of a boudoir photo shoot is to capture the subject in a way that is both beautiful and empowering allowing the client to see themselves in a completely different way.

I have been surrounded by caring, loving, beautiful women my entire life (I have 4 sisters, my grandma was my idol, my wife is an inspiration, my daughter is growing into an incredible person, etc.) and the most shocking thing I’ve learned through them is how quick most women are to put themselves down. Even when it comes to simple compliments like “WOW! Your hair looks nice today”, the typical response is something like “oh, I haven’t washed it in like three days”. It’s like it’s almost easier for us to ‘neg’ ourselves than it is to just take the compliment. With Boudoir we’re able to take that away and show you the you that you’re not seeing. With my professional guidelines, the posing, and our closed studio you’ll feel like your most comfortable, most beautiful self and you’ll be able to see it in every photo and I get to be a part of that!
What’s included in a boudoir experience with Wittful Productions?
With Wittful Productions every boudoir session comes with (brace yourself, it’s a lot):
Boudoir Guides: When a client books a boudoir session with me, they will receive several guides to help them prepare for their session. The first guide is a welcome guide, which provides a detailed overview of what to expect during the session and how they can prepare for it. This guide includes information on what to wear, tips and tricks for before your session, and even what to bring with you/what to wear to your session.
About a week after they receive their welcome guide, clients will also receive an in-depth outfit guide. This guide provides detailed information on what outfits to wear throughout their boudoir session, including tips on how to select the perfect lingerie and clothing, as well as suggestions for accessories and props that can be used to enhance the overall look and feel of the photos.
My outfit guide is designed to help my clients feel confident and comfortable during their boudoir session and to ensure that they look and feel their best in the final photos. By providing my clients with these guides and more, I aim to make the boudoir photography experience as stress-free and enjoyable for them as possible.
A free lingerie consultation from our preferred vendor: Our preferred lingerie retailer’s goal is to empower, educate, and entertain women about their sexual health and the sexual health of their relationships. Have no clue what to wear? She’s got you covered!
A professional hair & Makeup application right before your photos: Our professional hair and makeup artist understands the look and feel of our boudoir photography. Once you see what they can do you’ll be asking them if they can do your makeup daily.
Hours of professional boudoir photography: The hair and makeup process is FUN! Taking photos is where most people get nervous… But I’m a professional, and I pride myself on my ability to create a comfortable environment that allows you to be your most beautiful self without you feeling rushed throughout the experience. My posing is designed to help everyday women feel empowered, beautiful, complete, and sexy/sultry when they see their photos. Not everybody knows how to make that ‘seductive’ look, but I have some very simple tips to easily guide and direct you so that you’re making that face without even thinking about it.
A private / closed clean studio space: Your privacy and comfort is my priority. Before your session, we clean and sanitize the entire studio space. My studio is set in a comfortable home environment with a personal bathroom for you to change in, a cozy living area that has amazing natural light, a kitchen for snacks and some unique photos, a designated hair and makeup area, privacy blinds on all the windows, an incredibly cozy bedroom with lighting that will compliment your curves, a place for your guest to hang out, and so much more!
A password-protected app for your purchased photos: Your privacy is important! If keeping your photos “private-eyes-only” is what you want, that’s easy! We only share your photos and the password to view them with you (btw, your password is sent separately for extra security). This secure app allows you to purchase additional prints of your photos, as well as download your purchased images.
**Bonus feature: This app also works as a website link so you can easily access your photos anywhere if you have the password.**
A Photo reveal session: After a boudoir session, clients are usually scheduled for a photo reveal session about 1-3 days later. During this session, clients will have the opportunity to view their photographs and select their favorite images. The photo reveal session can be held at a variety of locations, including Starbucks, the client's home, or my home, which is the preferred location.
The photo reveal session is an exciting and enjoyable experience that lasts about an hour. Here is where my clients get to see their beautiful photographs for the first time and make their final selections. It is a great opportunity for them to ask any questions and have a final consultation with me before receiving their final products (photos/albums/prints).
During the photo reveal session, clients will have the opportunity to finalize their selected boudoir collection and make any necessary adjustments to their purchased package (they can even upgrade their collection if they’d like to).
Clients will also be able to review and complete their final payment at this time.
Please note that the final payment is due at the photo reveal session. If needed, I also offer payment plans to help break up the final payment into smaller installments.
When should I book my Boudoir Session?
Before you’re officially booked, I recommend having a one-on-one meeting (over the phone, usually) with the photographer to discuss your boudoir experience and package pricing.
I typically lock my clients in for their boudoir session somewhere around 30 days after that first phone call. Having about a month before your session gives you the time to get any outfits you may need, as well as get any other appointments you may need to schedule done (Manicure/pedicure, hair, tanning, waxing, etc.). Within the time you book all the way up to your session, I will be in contact with you, giving you tips, tricks, and whatever else you may need to feel confident and comfortable before you even show up for your session etc.
Booking pro tips:
Tip 1: Most Boudoir photographers require a booking fee. This booking fee typically goes towards locking in the photographer, the hair and makeup artist, and the studio space for the day. Try to budget for your booking fee so when you’re ready to book you won’t have to wait.
Tip 2: It can take up to 4-8 weeks after your photo reveal session for your photo album to be completed and shipped to you. If you’re doing your boudoir session as a gift for your partner, try to schedule accordingly. The last thing you want is for your album to show up on February 16th… We do have rush orders available for an additional fee, and in the worst-case scenario, you can give your digital photos to them as a teaser until your album arrives.
Do you offer payment plans?
Of course! We can break down any boudoir package total into a maximum of 4 equal payments and we can even break up your $499.99 booking fee into 2 payments if you need. Boudoir is a high-end luxury item, and the expense can be shocking if you aren’t prepared. To help you prepare for that expense we also take pre-payments on our collections before your session (we recommend this option to clients who already know what package they want). We even accept PayPal Credit (if you’re approved). If a payment plan is something you think you’d like to do let me know ASAP and we’ll get it all set up!
** If a payment plan is what you’re planning on, please note your photos will not be fully released to you until your final payment has been processed. **
Why is boudoir so expensive?
Boudoir photography is a luxury experience that is designed to make the client feel beautiful, confident, and empowered. Before the photography session, the client should receive professional hair and makeup services, which help to enhance their natural beauty and ensure that they look their best for the camera. Once the client is ready, the photography session takes place in a private, closed studio space. This allows the client to relax and feel comfortable during the session, which can be a vulnerable experience for some people.
The photographer's time and experience are also significant factors in the cost of boudoir photography. Professional photographers have invested a lot of time, money, and effort into building their skills and their business. They are experts in lighting, posing, and editing, and they know how to create a beautiful and flattering image of the client. They may even have to spend a considerable amount of time editing the pictures and choosing the best ones to present to their clients, and if you’re lucky, the photographer you choose may have even spent countless hours mastering their editing skills in order to get you your photos back within the same day!
All of these factors, from the client guide, hair and makeup, private studio, and photographer's time and experience all contribute to the overall cost of a boudoir photography experience.
How long does it take to get my photos?
Short answer: 1-3 days after your session (all purchased digital images are delivered once the final payment is received).
After your boudoir session, your photographer will schedule your photo reveal with you. We recommend scheduling your photo reveal as soon as possible (1-3 days after your session). The photo reveal is about an hour long, and at that time you select your favorite images and the images you want in your album. Then you and your photographer discuss which Boudoir Collection matches your selections if you haven’t selected your package already. Once your final payment is received your photos are released to you via a password protected app / website.
Can I bring a friend to my boudoir session?
Yes, you can… For some, a support buddy is exactly what they need to get through this journey. Having that friend who won’t let you let yourself down is so important. Having a friend that always speaks of your beauty, even when you’re not feeling it can boost you in more ways than you know. We all need support and bringing a friend with you is one of the quickest ways to get comfortable in this new environment.
BUT we have a few rules about who you bring:
Your guest must be the “I love you” BFF material. We’re talking unconditional loving support (usually this isn’t just your sister or a relative). We want to hear things like “Damn girl you look sexy!” and not “I don’t think that color looks good on you…”.
Your guest is not allowed to direct / suggest poses / photo ideas to the photographer or client during the session. If a guest does this, they will be asked to leave the studio space.
Your guest should be somebody who you’re comfortable with AND is comfortable with you in your lingerie.
What should I wear to my boudoir session?
The options are endless!
From elegant lingerie to a cozy sweater, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident in what you choose.
Don't be afraid to bring multiple options and ask your photographer what would work best for your session. Remember, this is all about celebrating your unique beauty. A great boudoir photographer will always make sure you look and feel your best!
